Technology transfer

New shape to your research: increased TRL and quick return of investments

Starting from a ten-year experience in converting research projects into industrial prototypes, TORET is your ideal partner for enhancing the technology readiness level of your research prototype, whether if you are a research organisation or an innovation-oriented company.

Our customer is first and foremost a partner: we pave the way to the industrialisation of your prototype, from the critical issues assessment to a new design concept as an industrial product.

Nowadays time and methods of research projects often push them far from an attractive industry-oriented development. To bridge the gap between science and market, our strategy is to collect inputs from partners and stakeholders, investigate technical and business criticalities, and reschedule the development with documented, reliable and validated design solutions able to conferring to your research the stamp of the industrial development.

If you want to partecipate in a funding call or you are considering to rely on a company interested in marketing your technology, with TORET you can minimise the time-to-market, and enhance the return of your investments.

Design development

We shape R&D projects into product design strategies

The design development is our core business, from the feasibility study to the design transfer. Once collected the desired specifications and defined the technology limits, we plan the design development, investigating reference market and state-of-the-art solutions.

We identify one or more development models, applications and intended uses, we perform calculations, design estimates and multiphysical simulations, we analyse risks and regulatory constraints, we evaluate materials, manufacturing methods and bench tests setup and we monitor the key solutions and parameters during the whole product design evolution.

We document the design development with technical datasheets, design requirements and respective test plans. We update operating diagrams and schematics, we suggest patentability prospects and assist you up to the design transfer, including user manual and technical description.

Moreover, if the prototype is intended to become a medical device, we perform the clinical evaluation and, if necessary, support you in the mandatory documentation for clinical investigation.

Software solutions

Every shape and taste of software

Experienced in the development of embedded software for control units integrated in instrumentation for measurement and control use and medical equipment, TORET offers complete software solutions for your needs: from analog signal processing to user interface, from components configuration to complete device control, from data analytical classification and elaboration to machine learning approaches.

We create web- or desktop-based interfaces for data analysis and visualisation, test platforms and multidevice hubs. We also develop and optimise analysis algorithms, capable of handling heterogeneous and constantly evolving data sets, based on relational databases and cloud technologies, potentially integrated into dedicated software platforms.

Whether your project requires a new development, the optimisation of an existing application or the integration of new functionalities, we respond to your requirements with the best software solutions implementing state-of-the-art open source approaches or combining the reliability of validated tools with the flexibility of innovative applications.

Product compliance

Your product in the proper shape

For an industrial prototype the conformity assessment is the last step towards a marketable product. Best not to be unprepared and forced to revolutionise your design to fulfill the applicable regulatory constraints.

TORET evaluates the compliance of your prototype to the essential safety and performance requirements demanded by Regulations and Directives in force in the European Economic Area (e.g. Reg. 2017/745 Medical Devices, Dir. 2014/35 Low Voltage, 2014/30 EMC, Dir. 2006/42 Machinery) and by the respective transpositions and national laws. Moreover, we examine the impact of any other applicable regulatory constraints (e.g. CLP, GHS). We analyse and evaluate the risks associated with the use of your prototype, following the main international standards (ISO 14971, ISO 12100) and the peculiar technical requirements (e.g. IEC 60601, IEC 62304, IEC 61010). Once the critical issues have been identified, we propose the most effective and sustainable corrective actions, such as design changes, risk control measures and information and warnings for the user.

In particular, for medical devices, we perform the regulatory analysis in accordance with the classification and scientifically relevant requirements. The clinical evaluation is performed applying the main international guidelines (MEDDEV, GHTF), the functional and performance tests are planned based on the preclinical requirements and the user manual includes the updated technical description, instructions, sequence of operations and user information and warnings.

If you are not interested in a consultant for purely administrative and regulatory obligations, but you are looking for a competent team able to provide you with technically valuable, linear and clear answers, TORET is your ideal partner.

About us

TORET is a bridge between innovative ideas and their shape as final products

Founded in June 2019 and arising from a ten-year experience in research and development projects, TORET offers high-qualified consultancy in technology transfer, design and software development and product compliance. Our research and design activities are applied in the fields of radiation physics, biotechnology, radiodiagnostics and nuclear medicine, and in the agri-food, steel and manufacturing industries. And much more. TORET is aimed at any university, public or private institute that wishes to enhance a research project, and at small and medium-sized enterprises that intend to intensify or diversify investments in research and development.

Why TORET

TORET devices is a harmonious and coherent interpretation of your idea. It is innovation and versatility, technique and curiosity. Our value proposition is to respond to the new demands of scientific research and smart factory, with the approach of an innovative small company, which proposes the most robust design solutions and the most reliable control measures, mixing cutting edge technologies, artificial intelligence and internet of things. By collaborating with TORET, partners and customers have the opportunity to interact with a flexible, pragmatic and creative reality.

Giuseppe Pittà

CEO

Already founder of DETECTOR srl, manufacturer of particle detectors for medical and industrial applications, he establishes TORET in June 2019, the fifth company controlled by TERA Gruppo Tecnologie Avanzate, with operational headquarters in Turin. Experimental physicist, already author of numerous publications with the Turin group of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, from 2004 to 2009 he worked on the development of accelerators for radiotherapy at CERN and actively participated in the collaboration between foundations and research bodies that contributed to the realisation of the National Center of Oncological Hadrontherapy of Pavia. Over the years he has led about 50 research projects, many of which have become finished products, sharing enthusiasm and resourcefulness with his employees and building a solid network of collaborators, suppliers and scientific partners.

Fabrizio Pace

technology transfer and design development

Industrial engineer, he gets the BSc degree at the University of Rome and the MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino. In 2012 he collaborates with the Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment of Turin. Winner of the 2013 CRT announcement in Medical physics and Bioengineering, he moves at CERN, taken up by linear accelerator and monitoring system of charged particle beams at the TERA Foundation. Meanwhile, he obtains a MSc in Economics and Business Management. Already design development manager in DETECTOR from 2015 to 2019, he is qualified in clinical evaluation and risk management of medical devices and industrial equipment. Experienced in feasibility studies, technology transfer and industrial development, he has an accurate eye for applied research and design-driven innovation, with an interdisciplinary approach and a proactive temperament.

Mattia Fontana

research and software development

Back in Italy after 5 years of experience abroad, he joins the TORET team to mainly take care of the software development. Starting from a pure particle physics background, with bachelor and master degrees obtained at the University of Turin in 2011 and 2013, he began his research path at CERN in Geneva, before moving to Lyon for three years of doctoral studies in medical physics in the LabEx PRIMES excellence program. During this period, he cultivated his interest in technology and software design, in particular for numerical simulation methods and scientific analysis. Enterprising and enthusiast, he never stops learning and testing new approaches for the development of original ideas.

Victoria Gutierrez
